PERKINS CHAPEL will accommodate approximately 16 people in wooden folding chairs.  The Chapel is heated for your comfort and a ceiling fan will provide coolness during the warmer months.

It is available for celebrations/ceremonies or to small groups for services.   The chapel will also be open to guests who are staying in the cabin, as a place for solitude and reflection

People of any denomination are welcome to enjoy the peacefulness and uniqueness of PERKINS CHAPEL. The post and beam structure utilizes hand hewn pine from the property.  The view from inside the tower looks among the rhododendron upon the pond.

The history of the Chapel….

Allyn Perkins was very fond of a small chapel in Forsyth, GA that he visited many times on his sales trips.  When we searched for this property his one request was that it have a place for a small chapel.

Allyn’s mother (Nel Perkins) was very intrigued by the idea of us building a small chapel.  She recalled a design from a 1994 Country Living Magazine, which was actually intended to be a very fancy garden shed.  She suggested that we use that design and we were able to obtain the blueprints from Country Living archives.  We made some adaptations to the design, such as the post and beam construction, to give a more rustic feel.

In the Spring of 2000, when the family was together for Allyn’s 60th birthday, the Perkins Family gathered around the future site of the Chapel and “christened” it.  Members of the Perkins Family came from miles away to help Jim and Allyn work on the Chapel.  Nel watched the posts and beams be hand-hewn from our pine trees and was thrilled to see the design come to life.  Unfortunately, she was not able to see the project to completion.

Inside the Chapel you will find items that remind the Perkins Family of the stone Chapel that they have all visited many times on Star Island (off the coast of New Hampshire).  A tradition of that Chapel is the quiet, lantern lit walk to the chapel in the evening.  In keeping with that tradition, we have lanterns in Perkins Chapel.
